Ground Zero
Kendrick Lamar’s Juneteenth concert, “Ken & Friends – The Pop Out,” was supposed to be a little celebration of his win in the rap battle against Drake but turned out to be a nuclear bomb when the rapper brought out all of LA's Hip Hop creme of the crop. The Los Angeles’ KIA Forum became ground zero for one of the most epic Hip Hop concert shows ever when Kendrick Lamar took to the stage with his friends, all of whom are of or have ties to the Los Angeles Hip Hop scene . Artists like Tyler, the Creator, YG, Roddy Ricch, Ty Dolla $ign, Dre, to name a few.
Turned A Negative To A Positive
The concert was meant to be the culmination to Kendricks win in the battle against Drake where the world witnessed the most nasty and viseral music competition between two mega stars ever. The winning song "They Not Like Us " has the worst accusations that could be made towards a person--as in artist Drake. So the espectations for many were indeed that the show would be an extension of the nasty battle. Instead Drake's name was not mentioned once and Kendrick used the moment to bring all the different sets and fractions of the West Coast street gang culture together and celebrate peace and unity. It was certainly oa beautiful visual.
Among other great statements between songs Kendrick kept repeating the frase "One West", which feels the like the lasting message from this unique concert.
